One of the great things about returning to the Mid-State Fair, is re-connecting with a lot of folks I haven't seen in a few years. The cattle drive yesterday provided good opportunity for that. And tonight, two familiar faces to a lot of folks around here will be head-lining one of the free stages. And they are surely more proof there's no place like home.
It's an important last minute run-through for Tara and Teale Twisselman. Days of rehearsals, weeks of planning, and years of dreaming have led to their big debut tonight at the Mid State Fair. "I don't think it's really going to hit us until we're standing there and they tell us it's time to go on stage." says Teale Twisselman. "And then we're gonna be like, 'Oh my gosh. I cant believe this is really happening.'"
The Twisselmans grew up in the Carrisa Plains, and since their family has handled the livestock at the fair for years, the girls have spent most of their Augusts there. And they've always enjoyed the entertainment aspect of it.
"We grew up loving to sing, and it's always been our passion, both mine and my sisters." says Tara.
It was such a passion, about 3 and a half years ago, Tara decided it was time to go after her dream, so she announced to the family, she was headed to Nashville. "And my whole family said 'You need to go with her." Teale recalls. "So long story short, I went to Nashville thinking I'd only be there for four months and I've been there for almost four years."
They've spent their time there, getting voice coaching, learning the ins and outs of the industry and laying out their own game plan. They've just finished their first album. They're home for a few weeks leading up to Teale's wedding, but then the career takes precedent again. "We have a lot of shows in Nashville starting October 1st, but we go hard from there."
Tara says they have dreams of making it big, but first place they sent their music to in hopes of getting a gig was the Mid State Fair. "There's so much excitement but there's so much build up that you want everything to be perfect and what am I not doing and what did I forget, and once you get up there I think you just let it all go, and I can't wait."
There will be a lot of familiar faces in the audience for sure...people who remember Teale and Tara as the bright-eyed darlings who were always on the go, always up for slumber party when yours truly paid a visit home to the central coast, and always eager to entertain.
Teale says they'll be giving it their all tonight. "200-percent." Because no matter where the Yellow Brick Road may take you, there really is no place like home. "I'm excited to see who will be there, it will be one of the most memorable shows we ever do." adds Tara.
Tara and Teale take to the Albertsons/Pepsi Headliner stage at 7. For more information on Teale and Tara, find their website at Newslinks.
