Come Fridays a lot of folks like to wind down to a nice relaxing movie night. But as summer winds down it's always nice to enjoy as much time outdoors as possible. Well you know, you can always do both.
We checked out Movies Under the Stars at Edna Valley Vineyard and found more proof, there's No Place Like Home.
There simply aren't a lot of theatres that can offer what some out the Central Coast outdoor venues can, and places like Edna Valley Vineyard have figured that out. That's why they open up the back patio on certain Friday nights to anyone wanting to enjoy a good movie, a great view, in an incredibly relaxed atmosphere.
Heather Roeller and Travis Tutt thought it made a great night out, "It's not something you get to do very often, to see a good black and white movie. And one that I've never seen before, you get to bring good food and drink some good wine."
You'll want to come early to these showings. Bring blankets, beach chairs, and a picnic if you'd like. But a bag of buttered popcorn pairs wonderfully with an Edna Valley Pinot Noir. And you may take home a few souvenirs if you know your movie trivia.
The old classics air on Cable 24-7, but no one seemed to have a problem paying 10-bucks to see the 1940 black and white "Christmas in July." Not in a setting like this.
"This was just a way of getting out in the evening. And it's perfect. Even if we went home now!" says Graham Wallis who came with his wife from Nipomo.
It doesn't hurt that it's for a good cause. Edna Valley donates all the proceeds from these movie nights to Special Olympics.
"It's the third year we've been doing this, and Universal Studios has been kind enough to allow us to play the movies knowing we donate all the money to charity," says Renee Weber of Edna Valley Vinyard.
You'll want to bundle up, and maybe cuddle up, because even though the grapes love the cool evenings in Edna Valley, you probably won't if you're not dressed appropriately.
But Shauna and Doug Habel of Orange County found it perfect for their first movie outing as husband and wife.
"Come to a winery, see a good movie, be out under the stars. It just sounded romantic," says Shauna.
That it is, and more proof, there's no place like home.
