Paso Robles is one of five cities chosen to host a Breakaway from Cancer champion in this year's Amgen Tour of California.
The Breakaway from Cancer initiative is a one-mile bike ride to the finish line, prior to the professional cyclists' arrival. It aims to raise awareness of resources available to people affected by cancer.
One person from each of the five cities will be chosen as the city's champion. It can be a cancer survivor, patient, caregiver or advocate. That person can be nominated by themselves or others.
The five cities taking part in the Breakaway from Cancer event are Lake Tahoe, Sacramento, Modesto, Paso Robles and the Conejo Valley (Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village and Agoura Hills).
Paso Robles hosted the Breakaway from Cancer event when it last hosted the Tour of California. That year, the city's champion was Ryelle Leverett.
Nominations are being accepted until March 22nd. Click here for more information on that process.
Paso Robles hosts its stage of the Tour of California on May 19th.
