Drivers travelling northbound on Highway 1 may experience some delays this morning after an accident blocks both lanes just north of Colony Dr., near the California Men's Colony.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a garbage truck overturned around 6:30 a.m. The CHP says people were injured, although it is not known how many people were involved in the accident.

Although both northbound lanes are blocked, traffic controllers are allowing through cars to pass. The CHP reports traffic is severely backed up, and estimates all lanes of Highway 1 to reopen by 9 a.m.
