SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Rain and snow have begun falling in Northern California, as the third storm system in a handful of days gets set to hit the region.

National Weather Service forecaster Bob Benjamin said the brunt of the storm was expected to hit later in the afternoon on Tuesday, with thunder and even hail possible in the San Francisco Bay area.

The Sierra will see more snow.

Benjamin says the system is expected to move through quickly, reducing the likelihood of any major flooding.

Still, with the ground saturated from previous storms, officials will be keeping an eye on rivers and streams.
