An official with the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission confirms Monday's meeting in San Luis Obispo has been postponed.
Because of the government shutdown, the commission doesn't have enough funds to cover travel expenses.
Originally, two meetings were scheduled in California. Both have been postponed, and officials haven't announced when they will actually happen.
According to an NRC worker, they made the decision to postpone the meetings on Friday.
The meetings were planned in order to go over a proposed rule regarding the long-term storage of radioactive nuclear waste at reactor sites in the country, including Diablo Canyon.
The NRC will be cutting down on operations in the middle of next week. Certain employees and functions will continue, but most employees will be furloughed.
