Nurses who enter the profession because they want to help others may be more likely to burn out.
Researchers based these findings on survey data from more than 700 registered nurses in Ohio.
The nurses who reported the most job satisfaction said they pursued the career because they enjoy the work, the lifestyle it provides, and forming relationships with patients.
Those who mainly wanted to help others were more likely to feel stress and burn out.
