OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) Oakland's city attorney wants a judge to disqualify a law firm that plans to challenge a proposed city injunction against Nortenos gang members.
In a motion filed this week, John Russo said the firm of Siegel and Yee should be removed as counsel for one of the alleged gang members because of its close ties to City Council President Jane Brunner and incoming mayor Jean Quan.
Brunner works as an attorney for Siegel and Yee, and one of the firm's lead attorneys, Dan Siegel, is on Quan's transition committee.
Siegel tells the San Francisco Chronicle there is no conflict of interest because the proposed injunction is being brought on behalf of the people of California, not the city of Oakland.
Quan declined to comment. Brunner says she is not involved in the firm's gang injunction case.
