WASHINGTON (AP) President Barack Obama plans to push his education and innovation agenda during stops in California and Oregon.
Obama was headed to the San Francisco Bay area on Thursday to meet with business leaders in technology and innovation. Among them will be Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.
On Friday, the president heads to Hillsboro, Ore., for a tour of Intel's semiconductor manufacturing facility. He'll also hear about programs the company has to encourage studies in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Obama is asking Congress for more spending on education despite his proposal for a five-year freeze on government spending. He says an educated work force will attract jobs and help the U.S. compete with the rest of the world.
