Obama to survey deadly Washington mudslide damage

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama plans a brief visit to the Seattle area to survey damage from a mudslide that killed more than three dozen people.

Obama is making a brief stopover Tuesday while on his way to the Asia-Pacific region for a four-country visit.

He'll also visit with victims of the deadly March 22 disaster, emergency responders and recovery workers.

The mudslide killed at least 41 people and buried dozens of homes in the town of Oso, Wash., which is about an hour northeast of Seattle.

The Snohomish (snoh-HOH'-mish) County medical examiner's office has identified 39 victims. Two others remain unidentified and four names remain on a list of missing people.

Crews continue to dig through the wreckage in a search for bodies.
