SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) A janitor has been sentenced to six years in prison for the sexual assault of a special education student at an Orange County high school.

Fifty-year-old Luis Antonio Mejia (meh-HEE'-uh) received the sentence in a Santa Ana courtroom Friday after pleading guilty in December to six felony counts of sexual assault and one misdemeanor count of child annoyance.

Prosecutors say Mejia, a janitor for 12 years at El Modena High School in Orange, had sex with the girl after grooming her for months with gifts, money, candy and cards reading "I love you."

Prosecutors say the assaults took place in late 2008 and early 2009, often in Mejia's school office after he would instruct another janitor to cover a video surveillance camera with tape.
