The Oceano Community Services District Board of Directors will once again take up the controversial issue of selling it's water rights during tonight's meeting.
If the contract is approved, the Oceano Community Services District would sell 100 acre-feet of Oceano's water to a developer looking to build the Los Robles del Mar project just outside Pismo Beach.
The sale could generate more than $500,000 and the board president says the district would use that money to pay for it's infrastructure needs without having to increase water rates even more.
Still, the proposal has some residents outraged. In the past few weeks, a group of people opposed to the sale collected nearly 580 signatures on a petition submitted to the San Luis Obispo County Clerk-Recorder's Office. They feel the sale will compromise Oceano's future growth and sustainability.
Many of those residents are expected to voice their opinions during tonight's public comment. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. at the district meeting room on Front Street.
