FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - A police officer who was critically wounded in a California shootout that left two others dead has been taken off life support.
Reedley police Officer Javier Bejar was wounded when he arrived to provide backup for Fresno County sheriff's deputies in Minkler.
The deputies were serving a search warrant at the mobile home of Rick Liles on Thursday when authorities say he opened fire. Fresno County sheriff's detective Joel Wahlenmaier was killed, and Deputy Mark Harris suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Liles also died in the shootout, and authorities say he likely took his own life.
Clovis police spokeswoman Calli Biaggi confirmed Monday morning that Bejar has been taken off life support. Biaggi, who is assisting Reedley police as spokeswoman, would not immediately give any further details.
