The man who barricaded himself inside a home in Atascadero is now refusing to talk to a negotiator on the phone and the bomb squad is preparing to deploy robots into the residence, a law enforcement spokesperson tells KSBY News.
The standoff started just before 11:40p.m. Wednesday when a woman inside the home on Delores Avenue called 911 to report an assault. The man inside the home is refusing to come out despite officers attempts at forcing him out with gas canisters. A spokesperson says the canisters have knocked out most of the windows in the home and due to high winds in the area, the gas is not as potent now. If necessary, SWAT from the Atascadero Police Department and the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Department are prepared to use force to make an arrest.
Personnel are being shuttled from a staging area to the scene by an armored vehicle.
A spokesperson says the man has a warrant out for his arrest for a probation violation. The man is now facing charges including resisting arrest, assault and threatening officers with a deadly weapon, because officers say he brandished an ice pick and a machete on two different occasions during the standoff.
