Atascadero Fire Officials say a Saturday afternoon structure fire caused at least $145,000 in property loss and another $60,000 in content loss.
It happened in the 9000 block of San Rafael around 1:21 p.m.
Officials were called out to a structure fire. When they arrived at the scene, they found a well-involved fire that was already burning through the roof.
According to reports, the owner of the home told firefighters that he stored gunpowder, ammunition, and welding tanks inside the structure. Officials say several small explosions were heard while they were fighting the fire.
They were able to contain the fire within 25 minutes, but there was still major damage.
One firefighter was cut on his face after a wall partially collapsed on him. He was treated at the scene and taken to a local hospital for stitches. He has since been released.
Investigators were able to determine that a burn pile started the fire. They say the fire escaped from the pile and spread to nearby vegetation. The outside of the garage then caught fire. Eventually, the fire spread to the entire garage.
