Officials identify 18-year-old killed in Saturday morning crash on Highway 101

California Highway Patrol Officials have identified the 18-year-old Bakersfield man killed in a car accident early Saturday morning.

They say Derrick Duff Jr. was killed after he was ejected from a 2000 Jeep driving on the Southbound 101, just north of State Route 166.

At this time, officials believe the driver of the car, a minor who was not identified, was making an unsafe turn and drifted into the center divider. He hit the guard rail and lost control of the car.

Derrick was in the back of the car, and he was not wearing a seatbelt.

He was thrown out of the car and onto the freeway.

A person nearby said they heard what they thought were vehicles hitting something on the roadway. Officials say they don't know if Derrick was actually run over by another car.

So far, no one has come forward saying they hit the 18-year-old.
