SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Military officials say a soldier from Hayward has died from wounds he suffered last week in Afghanistan.
The Department of Defense says Sgt. 1st Class James Grissom died Thursday from wounds he received from small arms fire on March 18 in the Paktika province of the country.
The province is in remote southeast Afghanistan bordering Pakistan.
The military says the 31-year-old Grissom was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group.
