One person is dead and two others are injured after a driver hit three pedestrians in Santa Maria Saturday night.

It happened around 8:30 p.m. in the 600 block of South Broadway.

A Toyota pickup truck driven by a Lompoc man hit three people, a woman and two men, who were crossing the street.

Police say four people were crossing the street, but one person was not hit.

The three adult victims were taken to Marian Medical Center.

The woman suffered a minor leg injury and has already been released.

One of the men was later taken to Cottage Hospital for a severe head injury, and the second male victim was pronounced dead when he arrived at the hospital.

His name is being withheld until his family has been notified.

Police are continuing their investigation, but say they do not believe alcohol played a role in the crash.

The driver was not arrested.
