With lights and sirens blaring, local children are welcomed to Vandenberg Air Force Base for a special holiday event.
The focus at Vandenberg Saturday, was on "Operation Kids' Christmas." It's a party held each year for underprivileged children in the community. Each of the 200 kids involved were teamed up with a military member for the day. Organizers say it's a great way to give back during the holidays. "It's just a time to bring some of our military folks and the community together to get to know each other a little bit," said Col. Reni Renner. "we share a little holiday joy and hopefully make the holiday season a bit brighter for these children."
Santa Claus managed to drop off some gifts for each child. The kids received a backpack, toys and a box of food so their families can each make a holiday dinner.
