Man killed, deputy injured during officer-involved shooting in Orcutt

A man is dead tonight and a deputy is injured after he was hit with a cinder block during an officer-involved shooting in Orcutt. Authorities say the man in his 50s was shot and killed while attacking two Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Deputies.

They responded to a phone call just after noon today about a man who was screaming and acting strangely. It happened in the Knollwood Village Mobile Home Park in the 3900 block of Cherry Hill Road. The man went into his home when he saw deputies approaching. Eventually he attacked the deputies, seriously injuring one of them. The deputy was taken to the hospital, but has since been released.

The man's identity has not been released.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's office is investigating the incident. In the meantime, both deputies have been placed on paid leave, pending an internal investigation.
