Fifteen-year Orcutt resident Janet Wathen said she noticed a U-Haul moving truck parked in front of her house on Los Padres Road on Monday night, but did not think much about it.

"It crossed my mind, maybe somebody's moving or moving some furniture, and maybe it was the people behind me," said Wathen.

But when Santa Maria Police investigators knocked on Wathen's door on Tuesday morning, to alert her that the U-Haul truck had some sort of connection to a crime at a house in Santa Maria, her ears perked up. Officers found a homicide victim in the moving truck on Tuesday morning, and believe the victim is tied to a crime that occurred at a house on the corner of Donovan Road and Blosser Road on Monday afternoon in Santa Maria.

Wathen said about the discovery of the body, "And that it was there all night. Ya, I feel kind of sick. And a little nervous."

Investigators could be seen taking evidence bags out of the house in Santa Maria, and they eventually wrapped up their investigation at the house, taking down the yellow caution tape. The U-Haul was eventually hauled away from Orcutt on Tuesday afternoon.

Three suspects have been arrested in connection to this case: Ramon Maldonado, 37, Carmen Cardenas, 28, and Pedro Torres, 54, all of Santa Maria. They have been booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail for conspiracy to commit murder.

"We've lived here about 15 years, 15-16 years in this house, and occasionally some little thing will happen, you know, but never have I ever heard of anything like this," added Wathen.
