A 48-year-old Orcutt woman charged with having a sexual relationship with a teenage boy over several years was sentenced Tuesday. Deputy District Attorney Kelly Scott says Michelle Newberry was sentenced to one year in county jail with five years of felony probation, but she could be eligible for alternative sentencing, including participating in community service or wearing an ankle GPS. She is required to register as a sex offender and take sex offender counseling during her probation. Newberry was arrested in 2011 after allegations surfaced that she had a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old boy. The boy was a friend of her daughter, and their relationship started in 2007. As part of her plea, Newberry admitted to one count of sex with a minor and one count of oral copulation with the same boy.
