Former UC Santa Barbara star Orlando Johnson is determined to prove he belongs in the NBA. The Gauchos' all-time leading scorer completed his first professional workout with the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday in Indianapolis.
The Pacers acquired the second round pick from Sacramento last week for cash. The Kings had taken Johnson with the 36th overall pick in the 2012 Draft.
"I just got to keep doing what I've been doing, working hard, being in the gym and keep proving myself because to these guys I'm just a rookie. So I have a lot to prove," Johnson told the Indianapolis media after his first workout.
The 6-5 guard averaged 19.7 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game his senior year for the Gauchos. Outgoing Pacers President Larry Bird described Johnson as an attacker, who will be a real plus off the bench.
By the way, Johnson, who wore #33 at UCSB, plans to wear #11 with the Pacers. Danny Granger wears #33 for Indiana.
