Men with excess belly fat are at a higher risk for osteoporosis.

Obese men were thought to be protected against bone loss but a new study found that fat stored under the abdominal muscles decreases bone strength.

There was no association between total body mass index and bone loss.

Researchers say they were surprised that men with a lot of belly fat had significantly decreased bone strength compared to obese men with low amounts of belly fat.
