Outpouring of community support for Derrick Rush's family

Tulare County Sheriff's deputies say the body of Derrick Rush was found in the Kern River Saturday afternoon.

The 28-year-old CMC correctional officer from Arroyo Grande disappeared when he fell off an inner tube July 8. His friends and family have been helping to search for him ever since.

Deputies say people camping about 1.5 miles from where Rush disappeared noticed his body in the river around 12:30 Saturday.

Rush has two daughters ages 6 and 10. There has been an outpouring of community support on the Facebook page, FindingDerrickRush, which was set up to help in the search.

Matthew Shields said, "Know that you will always have a place in our hearts and will never be forgotten. You live through your children. I will miss you."

Trisha Jones said, "Derrick was a sweet soul who many people are going to miss dearly. He's looking down smiling over all of you and all that you did to find him."

If you are looking for a way to help, Sunday the Quarterdeck Restaurant in Arroyo Grande will donate 10 percent of its proceeds to the Rush family.
