The owners of a pit bull that attacked a two-year-old boy in Paso Robles Tuesday say they are deeply sorry for what happened, but insist their dog has never shown any signs of aggression before.

The couple did not want to give their names, or appear on camera, but said they sympathize with the family because they also have a little boy who is almost two years old. They also feel their dog is being viewed negatively because of his breed.

Two-year-old Jay Weeks was playing in his backyard when the 6-year-old pit bull, named Tank, put his head through part of the fence and grabbed the boy's face. Weeks needed stitches and bandages to close the wounds.

Tank will be quarantined on his owner's property for the next 10 days. After that, Animal Services will return to the home and evaluate the dog.
