Part of Highway 1, just south of Big Sur, will be open for the weekend.

Cal Trans says the highway will be open to two-way traffic near Partington Ridge Road beginning Friday at 5 p.m.

The highway has been closed in that area since a major rock slide on Dec. 23.

Emergency crews will begin work Monday at 7 a.m. to repair the 60-foot section of the road and stabilize the slide area.

During the daytime work, they say the road will only be open to one-way traffic and motorists should expect 20-minute delays.

Crews will continue working through Friday, although no work will be done on New Year's Day.
