The Paso Robles football team's season came to an end on Friday. The Bearcats fought hard but lost at undefeated Serra 41-23 in the CIF semifinals.
The PAC-7 League champions finished the season 10-3 and earned their first CIF semifinal berth since 2001.
Serra quarterback Conner Preston threw for 270 yards in the first half alone as Serra built a 41-10 halftime lead. Preston finished with 308 passing yards and 5 TD passes.
Paso Robles fell behind 7-0 early but struck back on a 36 yard TD pass from Jacob Searcy to Max Blanton in the first quarter. It was set up by a 50 yard reception by Elias Stokes. However, Serra scored three touchdowns in the remainder of the first quarter and took a 41-10 lead in to halftime.
The Bearcats scored twice in the second half. One score came on a Jake Rodriguez fumble recovery to start the third quarter. The final score came on a 31 yard run by Jesse Felgenhauer in the fourth quarter. Felgenhauer finished with 62 yards on the ground. Searcy threw for more than 130 yards, but was intercepted three times.
Serra won its 28th straight game. The defending CIF state champions will host the winner of Saturday's Arroyo Grande/Chaminade.
