A Paso Robles high school senior was arrested Wednesday afternoon. He is accused of sexual battery on a fellow, female student.
The young man has been identified as 18-year-old Miguel Santos. Investigators are not releasing the alleged victim's name but they say she is 15 years old.
Officers won't say exactly what happened at the high school but sexual battery could be as minor as unwanted touching.
Still the school's resource officer contacted police after the incident happened in front of other students. Shortly after Santos was taken into custody on campus and transported to the police department.
Even though the details are still emerging one parent says she hopes the incident encourages other students to think harder about the consequences of their actions.
"I hope that the kids at the school maybe will get a message that hey, when you turn 18 the rules change," said Nicolette Harley, who has two children at Paso Robles High School. "For this young man he's going to have consequences and rightfully so I'm sure."
Santos faces a misdemeanor charge of sexual battery and he has since been released to his parents.
The Paso Robles Police Department says the case has been turned over to the District Attorney's office.
