The Paso Robles Joint Unified School District has taken some major steps to address the $2.3 million budget shortfall for this school year.
District officials have enacted a district-wide budget freeze. That means the district will not be hiring any new employees, purchasing any materials and supplies not on basic supply lists, or approving overtime or extra hours for its staff.
Over the next year and a half, the district says it will have to reduce its budget by at least $7.4 million. Officials say the only exceptions to this new freeze is for emergencies or situations in which student health and safety are at risk.
