Paso Robles' Garcia finishes 3rd at Masters Meet, among 4 locals headed to state meet

Paso Robles High wrestler Kevan Garcia has earned a spot in the CIF State Meet for the second-straight year. The senior finished third at the CIF Masters Meet on Saturday at Temecula Valley High School. Garcia beat Northview's Ricky Padilla 9-5 in the 3rd place match.

The top nine finishers at the Masters Meet advance to State. The 41st annual CIF State Championships open March 1 at the Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield

Garcia lost in the championship semifinals to Anthony Valencia out of St. John Bosco to start his second day of competition. Garcia went a perfect 3-0 on Friday. He pinned his first opponent in 2:35, won 9-3 in the second round and pinned his quarterfinal opponent in 27 seconds.Fellow Bearcat Colton Madrigal finished 7th at 170 pounds and Miguel Ruiz of Pioneer Valley finished seventh in the 220 pound weight class to also move on to State.

Righetti senior Luke Wilson won the 152 pound Masters title to also advance to the next meet. He medaled with an eighth place finish last year as a junior at 145 pounds.
