A local teenager is travelling to Capitol Hill to help others fight the same disease he faces.
13-year-old Ryan Jennings has Type One Diabetes.
He is among 150 children who get to travel to Washington DC this summer to lobby for funding for diabetes research.
Ryan is a cowboy from Paso Robles, and he says he's riding for a cure.
"It's hard. You have to change an infusion set every three days and test blood pressure and test about six times a day, seven times a day," said Jennings.
Ryan was diagnosed with diabetes when he was just eight years old, but he doesn't let it get in the way of his favorite activities. He is a rodeo finalist who practices every day and also loves camping, swimming, and training dogs.
Ryan hopes to one day become a doctor or engineer.
