Paso Robles native gets taken in NFL Draft

Paso Robles High School graduate Mitchell Van Dyk was taken in the seventh and final round of the NFL draft by the St. Louis Rams. The offensive lineman played four seasons at Portland State.

Van Dyk was taken with the 11th pick in the seventh round. The 6'9", 290 pounder said he never thought he'd see this day when he was playing for the Bearcats. "I was a little scrawny kid coming out of Paso" Van Dyk told KSBY Sports.

Van Dyk credits hard work and great coaching for his success at Portland State. He expects to play left or right tackle with the Rams. "Just trying to go and make a name for myself and move up the roster" said Van Dyk who will report to rookie mini-camp next week.

Van Dyk got a call from the Rams before they picked him as the 226th player in the draft. "When I heard my name it was indescribable. The feeling I got, it was one of my dreams since I was a little kid to be able to get drafted and when it came true I didn't know what to do." said Van Dyk who is watched the draft in Portland.
