A local wheelchair athlete would like to know who was behind the wheel of a truck that blew through a stop sign, hit his vehicle, and then kept going last Friday night around midnight. So would Paso Robles Police Investigators.
Brent Poppen is from Paso Robles. He is a para-olympic athlete, has starred in the movie "Murder Ball," and most recently wrote a children's book. He's promoting his books at the Mid-State Fair.
Last Friday after working at the fair all night, he was heading home with his wife shortly after midnight when a truck ran a stop sign at 16th and Pine streets and slammed into his vehicle, spinning his Honda around. But the truck that hit him just backed up and kept going.
Poppen says he's glad he and his wife are okay, but the vehicle equipped especially for him to drive is trashed. Police are looking for a silver or grey truck, possibly a Ford F-150, possibly a Chevy that would have damage on the front passener corner of the car, and maroon paint from Poppen's vehicle. If you have information that could help, call Paso Robles police, or Crimestoppers at 543-STOP.
