A suicide prevention forum, called Journey of Hope, in San Luis Obispo Friday featured a keynote speaker who survived an attempt to end his live by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge.
Kevin Hines now actively spreads his message of suicide prevention and living mentally well. "Quite frankly I'll be honest, it's difficult to find wellness once you've been struggling with such heavy mental health issues, but it's not only possible, it's probable," he said.
The forum also included a local resources and mental health services fair with representatives from more than 30 local agencies and county departments.
It was standing room only at the forum that was held at the Goverment Center in the Supervisor Chambers, from 8:30 a.m.- 12:30 p.m.
It was hosted by the Peer Advisory & Advocacy Team and Family Services of Transitions-Mental Health Association.
Organizers said there is a hotline available for residents in need, call 800-549-4499.
