A person was taken to the hospital Tuesday morning after being hit by a car driven by a relative in Santa Maria.
It happened by an apartment complex near Knudsen and Western.
The Santa Maria Police Department says a female driver was pulling into a parking spot and hit the gas instead of the brakes.
Police say one person was teaching another person how to drive when the family member was hit.
The victim was taken to a local hospital before being flown to another hospital for their injuries.
Police say the driver is being cited for not having a license.
Officers are calling the incident an accident.
