The San Luis Obispo County Animal Services Division is holding a food drive of a different kind this holiday season.
Animal Services is asking people remember pets who may be facing hardships along with their families. The division has partnered with the Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County to collect pet food and supplies for the animals of families in need.
A spokesperson for Animal Services says that over the last few years, the division has seen an increase in the number of owner relinquished animals, many of which have been surrendered because their owners can no longer afford their care.
People interested in supporting the pet food drive can drop off donations of unopened cans or bags of pet food, as well as new pet toys and supplies at the Animal Services office, located at 885 Oklahoma Avenue in San Luis Obispo during regular business hours (Monday through Friday, 8a.m. to 5p.m., Saturday, 8:30a.m. to 4p.m.).
