Animal lovers from all over San Luis Obispo county came together today at Laguna Lake in San Luis Obispo.
The fifth annual Goldens in the Park event brings together golden retrievers, their owners and community members to raise money for local animal rescue and shelter programs. But the event isn't only open to golden retrievers and their owners. Everyone and all breeds were invited to join the cause.
Event coordinators say the gathering has grown so big, they had to move from Santa Rosa Park to Laguna Lake Park this year.
"My goal is just simply to get as many golden retrievers together at one time in one place, and here we are," Lenny Jones, coordinator, said.
It's a sort of field day for dogs. They compete for the title of best fetch, best trick, most senior couple and most balls in the mouth.
About 300 dogs joined the fun today. They were joined by local businesses selling food, pet accessories and some pet adoption centers.
All the money raised from the event goes to Woods Humane Society and Animal Shelter Adoption Program of San Luis Obispo.
Jones says they have so far raised more than $10,000 for those programs.
