Peter Adam anxious and excited to become new SB Co. 4th District Supervisor

Santa Barbara County 4th District Supervisor incumbent Joni Gray told KSBY news on Wednesday evening that she had conceded the election on Wednesday morning. She said she called opponent, Orcutt farmer Peter Adam, to congratulate him and offer her help in the transition.

Adam said he was confident during last night's election, but the nervousness still lingered a bit.

"My gut told me I'm going to win, but you know, that can get awfully thin, you know, two hours in with no extra information and 50/50," said Adam.

He added that he was happy the seat finally went to him.

Adam said, "it was a long battle and to be over was a relief. I was glad it was over."

Gray's focus in the race was job creation. She wanted to bring more employment opportunities to the people of the 4th District, which covers the southern part of Santa Maria and all of Orcutt and Lompoc.

Adam's biggest issue during his campaign was fiscal policy. He said he believed the local government needs to take full responsibility for the budget.

"And at the same time, we've got to maintain our public safety, and we've got to maintain our infrastructure," said Adam.

Gray also told KSBY that she is disappointed that she can't finish the things she's done as 4th District supervisor, a seat she's held for 14 years. But, she said there's always new challenges to take on, and she will now focus on law.

Adam said he's anxious to get started in his new role. He said he plans on improving the local economy by supporting small businesses.

He said, "I hope I can help us get on a healthier and sustainable financial road, than the one we're on now."

Adam will serve a four-year term, and will be getting paid $84,200 a year. He will take office on January 7th.
