The San Luis Obispo Blues opened a seven-game homestand to close out the regular season with a 9-2 victory over the Fresno Sand Gnats on Monday at Sinsheimer Stadium.
Bryan Peters, a senior-to-be at Nebraska, led the Blues offensive attack with 3 hits in 4 at-bats, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. Austin Grisham, out of Eastern Kentucky, added 2 hits, 2 RBI and scored twice. The Blues collected 9 hits in the victory and never trailed in the game. They scored 2 runs in the bottom of the first inning, added single runs in the second and third before erupting for 4 in the fourth.
Adam Frank and Sean Mullen combined to throw a 2-hitter for the Blues with 15 strikeouts. Frank, a left-handed sophomore from Dartmouth, started and went the first 5 innings. He walked 4, allowed 1 hit, 2 runs and fanned 8. Mullen, a San Luis Obispo High graduate and Cuesta pitcher, struck out 7 in 4 shutout innings.
The Blues improved to 31-13 overall as they head into their final California Collegiate League series of the season. The Blues are 18-9 in league play and in first place by one game over 17-10 Santa Barbara. Both rivals have three league games left to go against Team Vegas. The Blues play Vegas Tuesday through Thursday at 6pm knowing that a sweep clinches their first-ever outright title. Team Vegas plays at Santa Barbara from Friday to Sunday.
