The Nuclear Regulatory Commission held a meeting in San Luis Obispo on Wednesday.
PG&E says the Shoreline Fault and the other faults surrounding Diablo Canyon Nuclear Plant are not capable of delivering an earthquake with a magnitude higher than the plant was built to withstand.
The Shoreline Fault was discovered in 2008 and it's created some concern in the community, especially as the plant moves forward with it's proposed license renewal.
PG&E hopes its findings will reassure people that the plant is safe.
"We have proven to ourselves that the plant's design remains solid and actually there's more margin in the design than we used to believe," said Jim Becker, the Vice President of Diablo Canyon.
However, others say more studies need to be done.
Elizabeth Apfelberg from SLO Mothers for Peace said, "We believe that these hearings and any report raise a lot more questions than will be answered. "
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission still needs to analyze PG&E's report.
It hopes to issue its findings by the end of this year.
