PG&E officials say they have shut down Unit 1 at Diablo Canyon successfully.
They said they are doing maintenance on the back-up cooling system.
PG&E said routine inspections found a small buildup of boric acid on the Unit 1 Residual Heat Removal System.
The company says the system helps manage reactor coolant temperatures in case of an emergency.
They do say Unit 1 does not pose a safety risk.
