The Avila Beach Post Office hosted a stamp signing event Wednesday afternoon for the new Johnny Cash Forever stamp. The guest of honor was the photgrapher of the iconic photo featured of the stamp, Frank Bez.
Bez worked with hundreds of celebrities from Jim Morrison to Jane Fonda and of course, Johnny Cash. Bez photographed Cash dozens of times throughout his career and many of the photographs he took became Cash's album covers.
The photo on the stamp was one of the many Bez took for the 1963 album, Ring of Fire. However, it was not Bez's first choice.
"It was actually just additional photography. I didn't even select the one from Ring of Fire. It was a shot of Johnny folding his arms," said Bez.
Bez has lived in Avila for more then 20 years and still takes photographs on his routine hikes through Avila's hills.
