SAN ANDREAS, Calif. (AP) - A pilot killed in a small plane crash in Northern California has been identified.

The Contra Costa Times reports 68-year-old Russell Hackler of Danville was killed Friday afternoon after his homemade amphibious plane crashed into a hillside near the Calaveras County Airport.

FAA spokesman Ian Gregor told the newspaper Hackler was heading to the airport when the crash occurred.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board were investigating the cause of the accident.
