Large crowds gathered near Pismo Beach pier for the 4th of July fireworks.
Despite a heavy marine layer blocking the view of some of the higher fireworks, police say tens of thousands of people showed up to see the annual show.
Pismo Beach Police Commander Jake Miller says police were busy last night.
Miller said, "We had about 20 arrests and about half of those were public intoxication, there were some DUI's, some fights we had an officer injured during a foot pursuit but all in all things were fairly calm on the beech they did a great job complying to the fireworks laws."
Pismo Police Department will continue to have increased patrols throughout the holiday weekend.
