Double-amputee olympian Oscar Pistorius broke down several times in court Friday while he was being formally charged for the murder of his girlfriend.
Pistorius was taken into custody Thursday after a shooting incident at his home.
Prosecutors are asking that the athlete be charged with pre-meditated murder.
He is being held without bail until his next court appearance on February 19.
Pistorius made history at the London Olympics last year when he became the first double-amputee runner to compete on the track at the games and is one of South Africa's most famous athletes.
