Police: Bakersfield man arrested for pulling out knife in downtown San Luis Obispo

A Bakersfield man is being held on $2,000 bail after police say he pulled a knife out in downtown San Luis Obispo.

San Luis Obispo Police say Monday around 7:20 p.m., John Ensor, 41, got into an altercation with other men near the intersection of Higuera and Chorro streets.

Police say Ensor had a knife and held it over his head in a threatening manner.

An off-duty police officer, who was with his family nearby, saw what happened, pulled out his gun, and identified himself as an off-duty officer after seeing a threat to life, according to police.

Police say Ensor threw the knife on the ground and ran away before being being stopped in a parking lot.

They say after positively identifying Ensor, the off-duty officer arrested him for brandishing the knife.

He was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail.
