Atascadero police officers confirm shots were fired near Santa Rosa Academic Academy just before 8:00a.m. Thursday morning, prompting a lockdown at the school.
Officers tell KSBY News they received reports of gunshots near the elementary school at about 7:55a.m. Thursday. Officers reported to investigate the claims, and say they found evidence that shots were fired. They say they did not find a suspect or anyone who may have been hurt by gunfire.
The report has prompted a lockdown at Santa Rosa Academic Academy. The lockdown was called by the school and not the police department.
Officers say they have Portola Rd. and Marchant Ave. closed down while they investigate. That area is less than a mile from the school.
