The Pismo Beach Police Department has identified the man who drove his car off a cliff in Pismo Beach on Tuesday night.
Police said around 6pm, 33-year old Sean Kaleb Ramirez, of Los Osos, died when his truck landed on the beach between the Pismo Beach Tennis Association Clay Courts and the Best Western Shelter Cove Lodge.
Police said Ramirez was driving a white Ford Ranger truck with a license plate from New Mexico. They said before he drove over the cliff, there were multiple reports of a reckless driver in a similarly described vehicle. A short time later, police said that the Ford Ranger was on the beach at the bottom of the cliff.
"Because it was a solo driver, and because we're short on actual witness statements seeing the vehicle leave the roadway, we're having to use roadway evidence that we found at the scene, and then we're gonna have to do the pre-collision investigation," said Cmdr. Jake Miller with the Pismo Beach Police Department.
First responders from CAL FIRE were only able to get to Ramirez by rapelling down the cliff and by jet ski. They administered CPR, but he died at the scene.
Pismo Beach Police said it is still investigating why Ramirez drove over the cliff. They said it could take a couple of days to piece everything together. An autopsy is expected to be done on Thursday, but toxicology results could take weeks. Those results, police said, will help them in their investigation.
