Police make arrest in robbery & kidnapping case

Police in Santa Barbara have made an arrest in connection with a robbery and kidnapping that took place Thursday afternoon.

Around 4:30 p.m., officers say a man confronted a woman walking in the parking lot at the La Cumbre Mall. Officers say he robbed her and forced her, at gunpoint, to drive him to the Santa Barbara Municipal Golf Course. He then took off.

Officers evacuated the golf course and put Adams Elementary School on lockdown for about 20 minutes.

Around 5:30 p.m., officers stopped 37-year-old Brian Carver walking near the Mobile Gas Station on Las Positas and Modoc Road. They say he matched the suspect's description, although he was wearing different clothes.

Officers arrested him after they say they found evidence connecting him to the case. He will be booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail. Bail is set at $1,000,000.
